Things to be EXCITED about!

Tonight I get to see Dan Mangan!!! I think it's going to be a mighty fine show! Plus since I left for Asia they started letting people take cameras into concerts. Holy crap that is exciting! Seriously, I remember the days when people tried to smuggle their Kodak disposable camera in their pants and the best picture you would get off the roll would vaguely resemble a humanoid Rorshach blob. But I digress...

What I am pretty sure will happen is that we will sit in the front row and then Dan will realize halfway through the show how cool we are and invite us out for beers afterward and then we will become best friends and he will finance my ukulele lessons and I'll tour the globe with him as his opening act. How do I know this will happen? Man, have I told you how cool, calm and collected I am around celebrities and quasi-celebrities. Perhaps one day soon I will tell you about how Raine Maida fell in love with me in May.

In other news, the sista is BACK! And look at the sweet Vegas swag we scored. Modeled by Matty of course.

The "satchel" is mine and the shirt is all Matt. Look how coy he is. He's going to look sweet wearing that to the show tonight. The purse is from Cirque du Soleil's O which Steph didn't get to see (she saw a different Cirque show) but she knows I really want to see. Hahah.. Sista is the best at presents!!!

Meet Lydia!!

Matt hit a milestone birthday this year (3-0) and so we celebrated by spending a ridiculous amount of money. We have a new laptop! Not just that, but a new printer, fan thingy (apparently all new laptops need this because they overheat? WHAT THE HECK!) and the Spore game he wanted forever (he tracked the creation of it). Look how excited he is. Of course, this is a present for me too and I even named our laptop Lydia. Isn't she lovely?

While I have been enjoying her I have to say she has contributed to the lack of blogging since I have had to set up all my bookmarks, links and programs and this takes FOREVER. I am enjoying how quickly she uploads pictures and that I can remove red eye.

Now that we have a new computer an interesting thing has happened. We used to bicker about who got to use our old laptop, Mr. Roboto, and so we foolishly believed that getting a 2nd one would solve this problem. Now we just bicker about who gets to use Lydia. Sigh. Poor Mr. Roboto.

A Special Gift

Look at this cool present our friend Donna brought Matt and I back from Iceland. It's a stone egg! If I can't be traveling then the next best thing is getting presents from people who are. It was made by a really famous Icelandic artist. Here's their website.

The story behind it is that Icelandic people believe that there are little "trolls" lurking behind the scenes. This egg has a couple of those trolls on them. I guess the trolls could be compared to fairies or angels. Since Matt and I are definitely angels (or trolls, if you prefer) this egg reminded her of us. Isn't that just the coolest?!

Le Papier Finds

There's a store on Whyte Ave called Le Papier which I love going to. It is full of pretty cards and stationary! It also has inspirational art that isn't tacky. I especially love mary anne radmacher's work. If I ever get a job with an office I am totally buying some and having it framed to display. Here are a couple of my favorites. I got Matt one of her greeting cards for our anniversary this year.

I also picked up a couple of these journals and gave one to my Mom and the other to my Dad. I've been eying them for years- since I lived in Edmonton before I went to Korea, actually. Now I finally got around to buying them and I asked them both to fill them out and give them to me at Christmas time. I am really looking forward to their answers! I think it's a neat idea, even if some of the questions don't totally fit. I suppose if someone was really motivated they could create their own books with their own questions. I have a terrible memory (hence why I blog so much) so I think these journals will be a really special gift that I can keep forever. Have you seen anything pretty or inspirational today?

Now and Then: 10 Years of Us

I could make this really mushy but that's not really my style. It was our ten year anniversary this weekend and we had a nice day. Nothing really monumental happened but I suppose you should be recognizing the important relationships in your life every day, right?

We went out and saw the Time Traveler's Wife (you can read Matt's review of it over here) and then bought ourselves a present.

I've always wanted to have nice things. That may sound really materialistic but let's face it, we need stuff to run a household and I am sick of owning a bunch of crap that is falling apart. We spent a ridiculous amount of money on new pots and pans and they are just gorgeous! Now that I'm staying in one place I want to make my living space as comfortable as I can. My parents have already helped me in the right direction with the fabulous living room furniture and TV and so now my goal is to keep that up and invest in quality things that I will love for a long time. You can see what we were cooking with before and our beautiful new cookware in the second picture. What do you think?

I think the next thing we need to save for and invest in will be a new table and chairs. What are you saving for? Have you made any big purchases lately?

Anyway, to get back on topic- Happy Anniversary Matt! And thank you to everyone that recognized our special day!

So Many Delicious Baked Goods...

As if having a fridge full of cupcakes wasn't enough, this weekend Steph went home to visit Mom and they did a lot of baking. Because they are awesome and love me they made two of everything. So yesterday I got my tasty care package. I have banana bread, zucchini loaf and rhubarb strawberry cake! I think I will have to start jogging or something or invest in bigger pants. Haha! Leah is going to love living with us!

Behold!!!

Wow, look at my awesome new TV that my Mom bought me! Between this and the living room furniture from my Dad and Sharron my apartment is starting to look awesome. Matt is basically in love with the TV and spent a long time telling me about every detail of it. Flat screens are neat! Thanks Mom!!!

I Still Plan on Using These...

While unpacking I found a lot of interesting things. There was a lot of crazy stuff from my university days that brought back some fun memories. Here's an old birthday present from my awesome friend Dylan. Ten victories!! In case you can't read what the coupons say- "This ticket hereby grants the holder 1 victory. The holder has the right to run up and down the halls whilst yelling, "I win, I win". Note: This voucher does not guarantee the right to a celebratory dance." I love my friends. I still have all ten waiting to be redeemed (there is no expiration date) so watch out people!
